Sue Waller

Susan Waller was born 2-24-1951 at Presbyterian Hospital in NYC. Waller earned her BFA (1973) from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, majoring in painting. She furthered her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute (1972), the Art Students League in NYC where she studied with Isaac Sawyer (1976), and Salem State University (1980- 1983) where she earned educational credits to certify her to teach art in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She has taught at four Catholic schools (K-6) in upper Westchester County in New York (1984 - 1987), at Rockport High School MA (1986 – 1990), Gloucester High School MA (1990 – 1991), and North Shore Community College MA (1990 – 1994). Waller has also run intensive student art workshops in the summers for children and adults in Cortland, NY (1984 – 1985) and Rockport, MA (1986 – 1994).

Waller was the head artist for the Westminster Stained-Glass Studios in the Bronx, NY (1976 – 1978). She designed, painted, and etched five windows in the classic style for Saint Johns Evangelical Church in New Britain, CT and eight windows of geometrical designs at the Macadamia Baptist Church in Harlem, NY. She has also restored many existing stained-glass windows in the metropolitan NYC area and throughout the Northeast USA. Waller hopes to design and paint one more window, so she can figure out how Tiffany got his flesh.

As an accomplished and versatile oil and acrylic painter, Waller works with a variety of base materials – including glass, aluminum sheets (which she believes are more permanent than frescos), chrome hubcaps, and tin sardine cans. She has painted murals on cement walls and outdoor MDL panels.

Waller just published a book on her father, Marvin Waller and her greatest mentor’s artwork (2021) and is currently working on “The Fiesta People’s Mural” (18’ x 16’) to be hung outdoors at 27 Commercial Street in Gloucester, MA – hopefully by 2023. She is also working on a book of her own artwork intended for other artists who want to know how and why.

Waller resides in the seaside community of Rockport, MA – close to her brother who is a space scientist and educator. She is the mother of Christopher Jamison (3-19-1977 to 3-3-2020) who was an incredible musician and electronic genius.

She can be reached by mail at 184 R Granite St. #2, Rockport, MA 01966 and by phone at (978) 546-3828 or through her brother williamhwaller@gmail.com.

Waller is fortunate to have known from an early age who and what she was going to be. Art is her passion and the figure is her fascination.
